Contraception & Family Planning

How much do you know about the different types of birth control you could use?

Despite the broad range of options available to women for contraception and family planning, our survey of more than 1200 US women between ages 18 and 45 shows that women do not feel knowledgeable about many of these options and have harmful misperceptions about their effectiveness. Our survey also found that many women don’t feel they are able to have in-depth conversations with their health care providers to make well-informed decisions on contraception and family planning.

Only 1 in 4 of the women we talked to were aware that certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and certified midwives (CMs) offer family planning and birth control services, despite this being a specialty for the profession. Your midwife can help you choose and prescribe you the method of birth control that's right for you.
